additional texmf tree for all users (was Re: [OS X TeX] Beginner help with TeXshop/MacTex needed)

My personal texmf tree is in
/Users/claus/Library/texmf

inside of which  I mirrored the structure of the main texmf folder,  
i.e., I used only the directories that I needed, e.g.,
/Users/claus/Library/texmf/tex/latex/misc

contains all my .sty files that I wouldn't want to be updated and  
replaced by i-Installer.

A similar construction should work for you.
