This List and Kopka & Daly's "Guide to LaTeX" were essential for me  
to start LaTeXing; latter came "The LaTeX Companion", "Math into  
LaTeX", etc., but I really think Kopka & Daly's book is the best for  
a good foundation to LaTeX.
