Yes.

Yes.

No. gwTeX-2003-2005 *is* the (partly) teTeX based distribution.

What most people do not know or pass on is that for a long while now,  
the gwTeX distribution has been TeX Live for the binaries and teTeX +  
personal additions for the texmf trees. It lives in /usr/local/teTeX  
for historical reasons, but it has not been a real teTeX for years.
