You're probably using TeXShop in pdfTeX mode. For it to be able to  
include EPS images, and also to use the pstricks package, you need to  
select the TeX and Ghostscript mode (from Preferences > Typesetting >  
TeX + Ghostscript, or from the Typeset menu).
