I'm no expert but our Makefiles in our little pet project contain lines
like
zipdist: distrib
cd $(DISTDIR)/../.. ; zip -r latex2e.zip latex2e
So place yourself in the parent folder instead. I know I have .DS_store
files in those folders but they aren't included in the zip.
