[OS X TeX] Updating Beamer

Then you've got to install version 3.06 (assuming you do need the  
additional features provided by the update), by following the  
instructions in section 2.3 of doc/beameruserguide.pdf (which does  
mention ~/Library/texmf). You may also simply look at the content and  
organization of:

/Library/teTeX/share/texmf.tetex/doc/latex/beamer/
/Library/teTeX/share/texmf.tetex/tex/latex/beamer/

and mimick it, with the newer 3.06 distro, inside ~/Library/texmf/.
