[OS X TeX] using \usepackage with other .sty files

I thought in STY or CLS files the loading of external packages goes  
with \RequirePackage ...

As Herb already wrote (one hour before I saw your message): you can't  
start the LaTeX document with the LaTeX 2.09 statement

	\documentstyle

and then use LaTeX2e syntax like

	\usepackage.

In LaTeX2e it's not allowed to use

	\usepackage.

before the first (and only)

	\documentclass.
