[OS X TeX] Newbie questions:

Arno: sorry to set off an incomprehensible (to many) dialog.
Best ignored, and it won't bite you.
I just want my computer to type set my papers, calculate my
modules, and cohomology groups and other arcana I deal with, and
not have to look under the hood very often. But I have to start
where I am and that involves switching from a purely Unix CLI
environment I have used for years. Peter and Bruno and Gerben
and Marc (offlist) have been extremely helpful in this
transitory process.
