Alain, I *think* \phantom{your text} "measures but does not print"
whatever within the braces. As I tried yesterday, \phantom{} therefore
has no effect if it's simply left there. As *far* as I know, {}
creates an actual space in PDF. But for your purpose, it might be
fine.
