[OS X TeX] Should I install X11 ?

I have been using Carbon Emacs for a couple of years now, and except for a
few months it has always been quite stable. I use emacs for almost
everything (except WWW browsing).

Aquamacs is just a repackaging of carbon Emacs with some Mac-like
configuration.
