[OS X TeX] ! LaTeX Error: File `pdfsync.sty' {and topcapt.sty] not found

Thanks a lot, Peter, for your tips. \texteuro works beautifully and I  
do have loaded too many packages.
As for \usepackage{cmap} I do not understand the purpose of it as I  
can perfectly cut and paste from the PDF output file without it.

If you use textcomp and lmodern fonts, you do not need eurosym. Via  
textcomp you can access the (lmodern) font's € as \texteuro{}. Using

you have accented characters *and* you can type just € to get € in  
TeX's output. And using

	\usepackage{cmap}

as first line after \documentclass you can produce PDF that you can  
copy&paste.
