[OS X TeX] Ghostscript 8 vs 7.05

A complete newbie question about installing TeX.

I use Mac OS X v10.3.9 with the Samsung-GDI printer driver (from 
linuxprinting.org), which uses ESP Ghostscript v7.05. I'd like to 
install and learn TeX. Gerben Wierda's i-Installer installs AFPL 
Ghostscript v8. My understanding is that AFPL Ghostscript v8 will 
overwrite the current installation (ESP Ghostscript v7.05), and I'm 
worried that, if I do it, I shall no longer be able to print.

My questions: Has anyone here tried this? Will the Samsung-GDI driver 
work with AFPL Ghostscript 8? If not, can TeX and related packages use 
ESP Ghostscript v7 instead of AFPL Ghostscript v8? Or is it possible to 
have both installed, and make TeX use the AFPL version, while CUPS goes 
on using the ESP one?
