Your *not* using Emacs, Massimiliano!
I can do in GNU Emacs 22.0.50:
pete 180 /\ pushd ~/Quellen/texshopsource/More/
pete 181 /\ pdflatex LaTeX\ Class\ -\ Article
This is pdfeTeX, Version 3.141592-1.30.4-2.2 (Web2C 7.5.5)
entering extended mode
(./LaTeX Class - Article.tex
LaTeX2e(BETA TEST RELEASE) <2005/12/01>
Babel <v3.8d> and hyphenation patterns for british, french, german,
ngerman, no
hyphenation, loaded.
(/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/tex/latex/base/article.cls
Document Class: article 2005/09/16 v1.4f Standard LaTeX document class
(/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/tex/latex/base/size12.clo))
(/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.tetex/tex/latex/geometry/geometry.sty
(/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/tex/latex/graphics/keyval.sty)
(/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.tetex/tex/latex/geometry/geometry.cfg))
No file "LaTeX Class - Article".aux.

It works in Terminal, too ...
In Emacs I was typing the \, in Terminal it was tcsh. I tried it then
in an interactive bash login shell and with file name expanded by
bash it worked again, on another example file.
I cannot imagine that it's the BETA LaTeX package that makes the
difference since I am sure I could tex files with space in the name
already last year ...
In Emacs you could type C-x C-u = on the spaces to check what they
really are. What are 'file `which pdflatex`' and 'file `which
pdfetex`' returning? Are the files in the current working directory?
Can you list them and do an additional 'ls -ldo .'?
