I've got pdfeTeX, Version 3.141592-1.30.3-2.2 (Web2C 7.5.5) and have
the same problem compiling. I can compile with an older version
however, 3.141592-1.20a-2.2 (Web2C 7.5.3)
So it seems to be a problem with the particular version pdfeTeX.

Btw, everyone here is recommending not using spaces in filenames, but
IIRC noone has linked to a reference mentioning this. If this is
indeed an official recommendation, could someone please link to a
document mentioning it, so that I can point people to it?

Also, Massimilliano does not use spaces in the filenames himself. He
is looking into this problem because I asked him about it, because a
number of TextMate users had problems using pdfsync and TeXniscope
when the filenames had spaces in them.

I must admit, I believe in this day and age spaces should be
perfectly allowable as parts of the filenames.
