It depends how old your notebook is and the use you do.
I have a 2-year old 17" 1.5 Ghz PB, and I know that a
new MBP would allow me to typeset at at least 3 times
the current speed. This would prompt me to change, since
I spend a good chunk of my time writing.
OTOH, at my university we still have a older version of
Mathematica, that is not the universal one, Maple is also
not updated yet... you see? These were the first reasons
not to rush and buy an MBP now. About Merom, let's see
when it really comes out.
