LaTeX, MS Word, asking questions, LyX (was Re: [OS X TeX] 1/2" margins)

I distinctly remember a member of the LaTeX3 team asking someone to  
submit a piece arguing that geometry should be added to latex/ 
required and describing the benefits and issues thereof.

Arguably, since the publication of _The LaTeX Companion, 2nd ed._,  
LaTeX 2e has gone into maintenance and all of this sort of effort is  
what's going to be happening in LaTeX3, no?

Or maybe we should all be experimenting w/ ANT. It's at once very  
LaTeX-like, but also wildly different. In particular it has a _way_  
cool layout model which supports multiple over-lapping ``galleys''  
which should solve all sorts of multiple column graphics placement  
issues (that's what I'm working on right now)
