[OS X TeX] {multline} after {multline}

Is there an elegant way to set two {multline}-like split equations,
one after the other, with decent v-spacing between them?

"Elegant" as in: Not

	Blah
	\begin{multline}
	gaga\\
		= gugu
	\end{multline}
		\vspace{-\baselineskip}
		\vspace{-\abovedisplayskip}% or whatever
	\begin{multline}
	gege\\
		= gigi
	\end{multine}
	Blah.

You'd think that somebody would have defined a {multlined}
environment, analogous to {aligned} and {gathered}, so that one could
type, say,

	\begin{gather}
	\begin{multlined}
	gaga\\
		= gugu
	\end{multlined}
	\\
	\begin{multlined}
	gege\\
		= gigi
	\end{multlined}
	\end{gather}.

Guess not.
