[OS X TeX] natbib: round parentheses vs. square brackets

Hello all,
With this new version of natbib that has been released, I have been
reminded to ask the following question. When I run the following
driver file with the accompanying BibTeX file, the year gets typeset
in square brackets instead of in round parentheses, which is supposed
to be the default (p. 19 of the v8.0 documentation). However, if I
take the contents of the .bbl file and put it directly into the tex
file, the year is typeset in round parentheses. Do others experience
this? I realize that I can force round parentheses with the round
option, but is this a bug?
Thanks,
Josh
Driver file:

\bibliography{bibfile}
\end{document}
Bib file:
@ARTICLE{AimedieuGrebe:2004,

title = "Tensile Strength of Cranial Pia Mater: Preliminary Results",
journal = "Journal of Neurosurgery",
volume = "100",
