You must have a relatively old setup, namely the teTeX-based gwTeX i- 
Package.

On a recent one, either TeXLive-based gwTeX i-Package or TeXLive-2007  
version of MacTeX, the third line of the engine file would contain / 
usr/texbin instead of /usr/local/teTeX/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin-current.

That said, if your typesetting needs are met with teTeX, no urge to  
change. Never break something that works!
