[OS X TeX] Where to put file like "longdiv.tex"?

This depends on where you put stuff. The original poster was putting
it in the system-wide texmf.local, in which case texhash needs to be
run. If you put things in ~/Library/texmf (as you probably do) then
you don't need to run texhash.
