Just for the record: I answered Sue's last eMails a few hours ago –
and found now that the answers were sent directly to her. I
recommended to
sudo -H updmap-sys --disable ttcmex.map
sudo -H updmap-sys --enable Map=cmother-bsr-interpolated.map
sudo -H updmap-sys --enable Map=ams-cmex-bsr-interpolated.map
(MixedMap=... might be more correct) to get rid of the fmex fonts. Is
someone with the ttcmex.map MAP file fragment enabled seeing problems
with parenthesizes in math? I disabled ttcmex.map some time ago and
never found something bad in using scaled versions of cmex10 for cmex
[789]. Is anyone seeing a difference between fmex[789] and scaled
cmex10?
Was I right recommending this change or was I misunderstanding the
description, that not fmex9 but cmex10 caused the error, the
vanishing "("? Which I can't reproduce even when re-enabling ttcmex.map!

bread becomes hard while crackers become soft.
