[OS X TeX] csh and environment vars

Dear all,

does anyone know why the C-Shell doesn't like a script file with the  
following line

setenv TEXMF '{$HOMETEXMF,$TEXMFOS,$TEXMFPROJECT,$TEXMFFONTS, 
$TEXMFLOCAL,$TEXMFEXTRA,!!$TEXMFMAIN}'

to be sourced? The error message is

csh: setenv: Too many arguments.
