BBEdit has a "Balance" command that allows you to place the cursor
between two braces and highlight the text enclosed by them. While I
do not have TextWrangler installed, I suspect it has a similar
command -- and (unlike BBEdit) it is free.

IMHO, BBEdit and TextWrangler are, in many ways, the least "high-
powered" of the text editors that have been mentioned in this
thread. That is not to say that they are not powerful -- they are,
particularly BBEdit -- but they have a substantially easier learning
curve (again, IMHO, and YMMV) than TextMate (which I own but cannot
get my mind around -- maybe because I never learned perl, ruby, awk
or sed), vim, or emacs for the "average" Mac user. These other
editors are very powerful and useful tools, but they require an
substantial investment to use effectively. The gap from TeXShop to
TextWrangler is arguably the shortest than from TeXShop to any other
editor listed here.
