Yes, that's the problem. With Gentium (downloadable from the SIL site)
I get rid of the problem.

I'm trying to define an environment or a command to be able to use
Gentium only for the IPA symbols, while using Palatino for all the
rest.

I'll have a look a Charis SIL fonts too. They're the ones I used to
use in Windows ages ago.
