I did and got two pages worth of answer from the terminal. So, I  
guess it's there all right.
So, now I tried
	\begin{tikzpicture}
	\draw (-1.5,0) -- (1.5,0);
	\draw (0,-1.5) -- (0,1.5);
	\end{tikzpicture}.
and … it worked!
Amazing! Truly amazing. This is something totally else.
