[OS X TeX] Regular expressions

In shell mood it is only kind of file name expansion – why should it  
be more complicated (for the 250 kHz TTL CPU)? And it is nowhere  
documented (i.e. mentioned as a guaranteed feature) that shell uses  
in this case /regular expressions/.
