[OS X TeX] [OT] moving home directories, was: Poor performance on a MacBookPro

Are there any pitfalls I have to worry about from moving /Users to a  
new volume and symlinking? I followed a guide which then used netinfo  
to set my home dir to the new path, so I'd assumed that was necessary  
- but it seems not to be?
