Check configure's output. Check with --help or --help=recursive what  
configure accepts. Check also config.log.

Finally complain at the author.

You can correct configure's behaviour with

	env LDFLAGS="..." CFLAGS="..." ./configure ...

Windows, c'est un peu comme le beaujolais nouveau: à chaque nouvelle  
cuvée on sait que ce sera dégueulasse, mais on en prend quand même,  
par masochisme.
