Alain,

To delete the page number (on any page), before the text that comprises
the first page, include the command
\thispagestyle{empty} % if you're using the fancyhdr package
o
\pagestyle{empty}     % if you're not using fancyhdr

To change margins in a new section, at the start of the section, type
the command
\setlength\textwidth{6.5in} % or whatever value you want. They will
stayed at that width unless or until you change them.

Indeed. Especially if the beholder is an old TeXie and relatively new to
LaTeX.
