If you can have one book on this topic, buy
Lyn Dupré, BUGS in Writing. A Guide to Debugging Your Prose. 2nd
edition.
Addison-Wesley Professional, Reading, MA, 1998
Lyn is a professional editor of math and computer science books. She
edited many of Knuth's books. The book is lively, entertaining, and
very useful.
I also love the cat.
