I think the button is actually titled "Update", but I know what you mean :).

...and right after this, you should have seen all the output that went to
that xterm!  It looks like I can fix this by passing --nox11 to the update
script; by default it uses some heuristics to see if it should launch an
xterm.

Thanks for the detailed report; that made it really clear where to look for
the problem.
