i just wanted to note the gnuplot tikz terminal which integrates tikz/
pgf with gnuplot. [...] is compatible w/ gnuplot so that both the
source code and output are portable to document sources besides tex,
and produces high-quality output. i've used it for large documents
and presentations, and been very pleased.
