this is what I got from ":version":

system vimrc file: "$VIM/vimrc"
      user vimrc file: "$HOME/.vimrc"
       user exrc file: "$HOME/.exrc"
   fall-back for $VIM: "/usr/share/vim"

but none of these files exist. there is also no dir VIM. but I found a  
text file called "vimrc" (without any extension)
in /usr/share/vim,
it starts with


" Configuration file for vim
set modelines=0         " CVE-2007-2438

" Normally we use vim-extensions. If you want true vi-compatibility
" remove change the following statements
set nocompatible        " Use Vim defaults instead of 100% vi  
compatibility


and contains only 12 lines
