[OS X TeX] Renumbering equations in Mac OS TeX

May I suggest

\renewcommand{\theequation}{7.\theequation}

I hope this would work.

If the 7 here is the section number, of course,

\renewcommand{\theequation}{\thesection.\theequation}

should  do the trick.
