For TeXShop this does not matter, as it adds several paths (/usr/ 
texbin:/usr/local/bin) to the path of the restricted shell (/usr/bin:/ 
bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin). Remember that GUI applications normally do not  
inherit the shell environment you have in the terminal.

The information is useful anyway to debug Terminal issues.
