It won't work with the PostScript Type 1 fonts: all the glyphs are  
scattered over many font( file)s. You can install Java for Mac OS X  
from Apple and then you'll have at least the fonts from Java 1.4.2  
and 1.5.0:

You can add them (as a library, or two, for example) in Font Book and  
make them active.

There is a problem with LucidaSansOblique.ttf and  
LucidaSansRegular.ttf from Java 1.3.1: the f-ligatures at U+FB00-U 
+FB04 (ff, fi, fl, ffi, ffl) are faulty; ff fell off the font file  
and then the four survivors each slipped upwards by one code point  
(so ff in your text could be displayed and printed as fi etc.;  
easily found in TextEdit by changing the font from Hoefler Text to  
Lucida Sans). In Java 1.4.2 and 1.5.0 Lucida Sans Regular is corrected.
