[OS X TeX] How to update MacTex

1) MacTeX2008 is a HUGE step in comparison with 2007, both are based
on the corresponding versions of TL. Standard install installs all the
packages (and binaries) in TL2008;
2) tlmgr update --all updates everything with the exception of
packages belonging to collections which are not installed; new
packages added to the installed collections are installed; this
applies to binaries
3) However tlmgr   does not watch after tex run (nor tries to grab
missing packages).
4) Let makes clear: neither tlmgr nor mpm (MikTeX package manager)
take from CTAN packages as submitted; these packages must be repacked
in the special way. It usually takes few days
5) TL does not include some packages (may be they just missed some but
after initial requests there these animals became almost extinct or
due to licensing). The same is true for MikTex. You need to do it
manually
