Howdy,

The quickes way to find out is to look at the nomencl documentation.  
Assuming you have a recent MacTeX try running

texdoc nomencl

in Terminal. That should open the nomencl documentation in Preview.

A possible alternative which should be able to do the job you want is  
the glossaries package.
