[OS X TeX] No output with LaTeXit and Mac Tex 2008?

Greetings,

Thanks to Michael Sharpe and Peter Dyballa for answering my question  
last week about exam.cls and Mac TeX 2008; I fixed that one and also  
some troubles with MathTime Pro fonts (also thanks to the list). So I  
can now typeset without difficulty using TeXShop.

Now I have a new and exciting problem, with LaTeXit. I can typeset  
equations and there are no apparent errors, but neither is there any  
apparent output. For instance, attempting to typeset 2+2=4 with the  
"Display" option yields the log file appended below - I don't see  
anything obviously wrong. The output window is blank, and while I can  
copy and past something (invisible) from there into Keynote (for  
instance), nothing appears in Keynote. Direct examination of the  
output file (latexit-1.pdf) using Preview also shows it to be blank.

This is using LaTeXit 1.16.0 beta 4, which I believe was installed as  
part of the MacTeX 2008 distribution, on Mac OS X 10.5.5. The behavior  
appears to be independent of whether I've selected pdflatex or latex 
+dvipdf in the preference pane, except that in the latter case LaTeXit  
issued the complaint at the end of the log file:

/usr/local/bin/dvipdf: line 47: exec: dvips: not found

I was able to get rid of that complaint by changing the ps2pdf  
preference from "/usr/local/bin/ps2pdf" to "/usr/texbin/pstopdf" but  
even with that there is still no output.

Any suggestions on how to proceed would be appreciated.
