Thanks for pointing me to those. Looks like texWordCount is an
alternative.
My adapted version of Ramon Figueroa-Centeno's applescript could also
use that one.
I asked the maintainer of texWordCount to submit it to CTAN such that
it makes it way into TeXLive, ebentually.
Any ideas other than detex + wc for Character-Counting?
