Not for the PDF, which when working with a large screen most will  
prefer to view simultaneously to the source. But good idea for  
the .log, .aux, .bbl or .bib, and even for \included files, as others  
have suggested... On the other hand, it should be user-configurable so  
that when working with small screens the PDF can appear in a tab.  
Together with a good keyboard shortcut to jump from one tab to  
another, such as option+arrow(left or right).

However, when working in different projects it would also help that  
each has its own window, whose tabs contain only its associated  
files... So the "Open..." menu item would need options "... as a new  
window/as a new tab".
