But of course! All you can do on a command line you can do better in  
a shell script.

The parameters, for example the file name, TeXShop submits to an  
ENGINE file, do not need to be used. It would allow tlmgr to list  
what's installed – for manual filtering. Because it does not work to  
submit a marked word to the ENGINE script texdoc can't do its job.
