[OS X TeX] Missing $ inserted in a "variations" environment

Same here, and this is just to note that the reason the very first  
example in docvariations.tex

$$
\begin{variations}
         x        & \mI &    &     &  0  &       &    & \pI \\
\filet
   \m{\frc{1}{x}} & \h0 & \d & \mI & \bb & \h\pI & \d &  0  \\
\end{variations}
$$

does not work is \frc. If replaced with \frac, it does. So, it would  
seem that docvariations.tex might have to be taken with caution.
