Howdy,

Notice that the map file is found in ~/.texlive2008/... which means  
that at some time in the past you ran updmap rather than updmap-sys.  
Remove ~/texlive2008 using

sudo rm -fr ~/texlive2008

and then the correct map file should be found.

PS: if the system needs ~/texlive2008 again (e.g., to create some tfm  
files) it will recreate this directory.
