It comes from the pnmtopng utility which is used to assemble the  
final view. The term "sBIT" stands for the significant bits of a  
colour, greyness, or transparency word or component. Maybe the new  
NetPBM software has revised source core which now complains about  
stitched together 24/32-bit and 8-bit parts of the final graphics  
image...

You could try to run the script as 'bash -v <path name of diffps  
script> <remainder of original command line>' and see when this  
warning is emitted.
