The main thing wrong with 'mdfind' is the documentation. I just  
reposted a version of LocateItem which makes use of either locate (not  
much reason to use it any more, except for hidden files and folders)  
or mdfind. The documentation adds a little to documenting the  
peculiarities of mdfind. The program gives (if 'Spotlight search' and  
'using DisplayName' are checked) essentially the same information as  
Find, but with wildcards permitted, and with settings saved between  
invocations, plus filtering.
