 From the release notes:

Added "ctx" to list of extensions which are regarded as TeX files and 
can be syntax colored and typeset.

'ctx' is not a valid extensions for TeX files in ConTeXt, ctx files are 
used for progrocessing and their format is XML, a explanation about the 
format can be found on the Pragma website
