It's not a question of choice (or taste), it's a question of time!

Just wait a day or two that some GB of synch data has reached Europe.  
Presumingly the 100 mirrors are not cascaded. So they are retrieving  
their data from one source. And this single source (of failure) has a  
day job of a CTAN server.
