On my system this compiles fine with pdflatex but the diagonal lines are very raggedy. PiCTeX is very old (I was using it in the 1980's and I still have the printed manual :-)). I haven't tried with latex->dvips->ps2pdf. I wonder if there are newer packages (achemso?) that might be better although I'm not sure what the poster wanted to use it for (i.e., recompiling an old document or creating a new document).
