[OS X TeX] gnu fmt, or equivalent, for TeX?

Aloha,

I know that TeXShop can do hard wraps, but I would like to do it from the
command line. 

If I just run a LaTeX file through fmt then the result won't necessarily be
correct TeX anymore, because, for example, fmt does not handle comments
properly.

Does anybody know how to do this?
